The LEGO Company History
Ole Kirk Christiansen, who founded his workshop in Billund in Denmark in 1932, produced wooden toys and furniture. The business was not very profitable and he struggled through the early 30s. In 1934, he started to concentrate on toys and changed the name of the business to LEGO. This is an abbreviation for “leg godt” which is the Danish word meaning “play well”.
The company expanded into other Nordic countries in the 1960s. The company developed smaller bricks that were suitable for children with small hands. It was named DUPLO (after the Latin word duplex, which means two-fold). This allowed children to make more elaborate models.
In the 1970s, Lego began to add new features to make its products stand out from the competitors. They added different faces to the minifigures. This change made the characters more realistic and capable of expressing different emotions and facial expressions. The Lego Group added wheels to their bricks, which allowed them to create vehicles and other machines.
The next big step was to introduce dedicated themes systems within the systems that let customers create a specific environment or a specific situation. This helped the company establish its brand as more recognizable and helped them appeal to an audience that was younger. In addition, the a brief history of the creation of the lego constructor company increased production by opening factories in South Korea, Malaysia, and Brazil.
