A two-hour window into the heart of Hayao Miyazaki’s creative process, the documentary follows six long years of work during the making of The Boy and the Heron, the final film by the master of Japanese animation. This was a very moving and funny documentary. Kaku Arakawa closely follows Hayao Miyazaki’s creative process, during the making of The Boy and the Heron. It nicely combines scenes from Miyazaki’s films, with the real people included in the making of the film, and with people who are/were important to Miyazaki. I saw this film at the Helsinki Love & Anarchy international film festival. Some moments had the audience laughing out loud, and other moments had people wiping their eyes from laughter. I hope Miyazaki can make more films. I cannot recommend this documentary enough to any Ghibli fan.
